Objetives
The Spanish economy is facing a severe economic crisis as the global economy undergoes a profound structural change. This change requires a review of the production identity in advanced countries given the overwhelming entry into the international market of companies from emerging economies whose human and technological capital is increasingly competitive.
In this scenario, the Spanish economy has specific difficulties. Having exhausted one of its great engines of growth in recent times, it now needs to review and revitalize its pattern of development. With a depressed domestic demand, a trade imbalance which is still significant and the globalization of markets continuing to progress, this new pattern means that there is more production directed abroad. Despite the difficulties that this entails, one factor that is cause for optimism is that the Spanish export sector has not stopped making progress in the last decade and may well provide an adequate basis for promoting a new phase of sustained growth.
This workshop aims to discuss these issues with data and analyses provided by an outstanding group of specialists. The programme offers a complementary range of points of view, examining macroeconomic aspects of foreign competitiveness, sectors related to international production specialization and microeconomics linked to the corporate structure of Spanish exports.
