Human Capital Notes

Experiences of young people at work

Abstract

Do young people take initiative at work or are they passive? To what extent do they believe firms keep their promises? Are they more likely to experience stressful situations at work? What makes them leave a job? This note discusses various aspects related to the experiences of young people at work.According to the results provided in this issue, older youth and university graduates have a more favorable attitude when it comes to performing their work duties. On the other hand, those who are younger and with higher education are the least dedicated and innovative at work.Among other issues, this note also shows that nearly six in ten young people leave their jobs voluntarily, mainly to study. Note no.113 concludes the Human Capital series devoted to disseminating the results from the Bancaja-Ivie 2008 Observatory of Young People's Transition to the Labour Market. These issues were directed by Ivie researchers José García-Montalvo and José María Peiro.
