Foreign students in Spain's education system
Abstract
3.2% of university students were of foreign origin in Spain in 2010, compared to 10% in terms of school pupils. These data can be found in note no. 123 which examines the participation of the foreign population in Spain's education system. With a greater number of foreigners, there are more countries of origin. In addition to showing the historical evolution of the immigration process, this note analyzes the distribution of foreign students by region and type of education. The rate of early school leavers among foreigners is 45.8%, almost double the dropout rate of nationals (26.4%). This issue points out that socioeconomic status and language barriers account for the lower educational achievement of foreign students. The data in this note are from the Analyses on Migration.
