Memoria de actividades 2015 This document provides detailed information on each of the Ivie’s members and reviews all the activities, projects and publications carried out during 2015. For the Ivie, 2015 represents a special year since it celebrates its 25th Anniversary, a quarter of a century promoting and encouraging economic research. On November 2015, Francisco Pérez, Ivie Research Director, Joaquín Maudos, Research Deputy Director, along with Pilar Chorén, Managing Director, kicked off the celebration by presenting to the media the Institute’s achievements since 1990 and in parallel a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of the Valencian economy during the last 25 years.

Which projects have had a greater impact during 2015? In 2015, the Ivie strengthened its international relations with the project Data for European ICT Industries Analysis (DICTA), financed by DG CONNECT and the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. This project updates and adds to the work developed by the PREDICT Project, extending it to new variables over a greater time period.

In 2015, several research projects were undertaken on the public sector, worth highlighting is the study on ‘Basic Public Services in Spain’ which has generated a new database Basic public services expenditure in Spain and its regions (2002-2013). Also in 2015, the historical series of Public capital in Spain and its regions were updated. Other studies completed in 2015 were The Geography of human capital in Spain in collaboration with Bancaja Foundation and Competitiveness of Valencian firms for the Valencian Association of Entrepreneurs (AVE).

What’s new regarding dissemination and communication? In 2015, a new section was added to our website, Opinion articles, which collects the Op-eds published in newspapers by Ivie researchers and technicians. In addition, in December 2015, the new series Esenciales [Essentials] was introduced which is made up of brief, accessible and updated documents with the latest available data, oriented to disseminate the main results of the research program carried out by the Ivie and the BBVA Foundation for more than twenty years.

Ivie’s track record has been recognized both in academic circles and by society in general. Thus, during 2015, the Ivie received the following awards:

  • The journal Economía 3 presented the Ivie with the Economía 3 Research Career Award for the work carried out over its 25-year trajectory and
  • The Fundación de Estudios Bursátiles y Financieros (dedicated to stock market and financial studies) awarded the prize for Financial Dissemination to the Ivie for its “outstanding work in this area since its inception 25 years ago”

The Industry and Service Sectors and their Competitive Advantages was the theme of the second Cañada Blanch Forum which took place in December and was organized by Ivie, Cañada Blanch Foundation and London School of Economics, in collaboration with Bankia and AVE. Managers of firms and public and private institutions, as well as professionals and academics from Valencia attended the Forum.

Some of Ivie’s 2015 figures are:

  • During 2015, the Ivie senior and associate researchers wrote 20 books and 26 book chapters, published or forthcoming, 83 scientific articles, 52 of which were published in international volumes, as well as 34 other publications
  • 54 researchers collaborated on the 39 projects and activities carried out by the Ivie in 2015
  • 33 public and private institutions contributed with funding to the development of the Institute’s research areas and projects
  • The Ivie participated in 9 international networks
  • The Institute produced and updated 23 databases, including 4 project websites
  • During 2015, the Ivie organized 9 seminars and presented 13 studies developed by Ivie researchers and technicians
  • Ivie’s activity was spread through Twitter among over 1.700 followers with more than 5.400 tweets
