Experiencias y retos de futuro del Campus de Excelencia Internacional VLC/CAMPUS:

Objectives

The International Campus of Excellence was created to promote strategic alliances between universities and other institutions located on university campuses in order to produce "knowledge ecosystems” that favor employment, social cohesion and territorial economic development. The Campus of Excellence promotes the interaction of universities with other research centres, science parks, technology centers, production environment agents and others, to develop education, research and innovation ecosystems which will contribute to the socio-economic development of the local or regional environment.

VLC/CAMPUS is a joint initiative of the Universitat de València (UV), Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) to create an International Campus of Excellence in the metropolitan area of Valencia. By means of joining their best resources in training, scientific-technology and innovation, the institutions involved in VLC/CAMPUS aim to become a pole of knowledge of international excellence; to improve the quality of the training on offer, to promote attraction and retention of talent, to lead the change towards a new social and economic model in the territory, more intensive in knowledge and a generator of employability and productivity, and to act as reference model for those values and socio-cultural innovations that allow for a transition towards a sustainable economy and society.

Five years after its start-up, it’s time to review the results VLC/CAMPUS has obtained and also analyze what are the main future challenges facing this type of project. The VLC/CAMPUS “Workshop on Innovation and Strategy” organized by the Ivie is a meeting in which the successful experiences of VLC/CAMPUS are shared to specialize and internationalize the activities of its sponsors, in collaboration with some of its main socio-economic agents. For this purpose, the workshop seeks to answer two groups of questions:

• What are the results of the changes that have taken place in recent years within the main areas of activity of the VLC/CAMPUS sponsors?
• How has the knowledge society advanced around VLC/CAMPUS? Are knowledge-based activities regularly present in the Valencian society? How have they been affected by the crisis? What examples of innovation developed by VLC/CAMPUS and other institutions can be set as benchmark?
